Getting a tattoo is a very exciting event in someones life, but what some people do not realize is you have to care for your tattoo even after the two week healing period. After all, you have spent a good chunk of change to get your skin inked and endured some pain, so why not take care of it and try to keep it as brilliant and pretty as it was the day you got it. Of course there are somethings that you can not control regrading your tattoo when you age. Â
Your tattoo can change its appearance for a variety a reasons that we just simply can not control. For one, the aging process, unfortunately there isn’t really anything we can do about that. The appearance of your tattoo will change as your skin stretches, shrinks and ages. The pigment of your tattoo moves imperceptibly over time on a cellular level and the elasticity and skin resiliency simply decline on their own.  Other culprits that can take a toll on your tattoos color, clarity and brillance are age spots, tanning and wrinkles.
So what can you do to help preserve your tattoo? Well just besure to follow the aftercare instructions your tattoo artist gives you. And after the two week healing period is over don’t stop moisturizing your tattoo. A good rule to follow is, every time you get out of the shower apply some lotion to your tattoo to keep it moisturized and to help preserve the ink. Also try to avoid direct sunlight. If you are out in the sun be sure that you wear a sunblock of 45 or higher and re-apply often.

Unfortunately in today’s society there are a lot of disadvantages of having a tattoo and the disadvantages seem to out weigh the advantages. The number one disadvantage of having a tattoo is that people will look down upon you and think less of you. Also people may think that you are trashy, unattractive and up to no good. Sadly, having a tattoo doesn’t mean any of this but negativity towards tattoos has not progressed as society has.
Another really big disadvantage of having a tattoo is regretting getting it in the first place or out growing it later in life and wishing you hadn’t of gotten the design you did. Or not getting a tattoo from a very skilled tattoo artist and having to live with a not so great quality tattoo. On a more serious note you can get Hepatitis from getting a tattoo from an unclean parlor and with unclean equipment. But this rarely happens. Also some but not many people are allergic the the tattoo ink. Also another disadvantage to having a tattoo is not being able to give blood for a year. Some states don’t require a one year waiting period while others do. You just have to see if your state follows this rule. Another problem with tattoos is there has been some studies conducted say if you have tattoos and have to get an MRI it can cause some problems. There hasn’t really been any major evidence gathered regarding this but apparently some people that have gotten an MRI and had tattoos has an reaction. Their tattoo got all red, hot and inflamed.

It is not a big secret that John Mayer has several tattoos of his own. At first glance you wouldn’t think this clean cut romantic would have quite the tattoo collection, but he does! John has at least 8 tattoos and a huge sleeve on his left arm that covers up a some of his other tattoos. But if you look closely you can still see them.
John’s tattoos include:
1. A Japanese-inspired tattoo that is on his inner left bicep.
2. The word “Home” on his left Bicep.
3. The Word “Life” on his right Bicep.
4. On his Left upper arm “SRV” which stands for Stevie Ray Vaughan, who inspired John to pick up a guitar.
5. On his right bicep a Koi fish.
6. Three squares on his forearm that he is filling in at different times.
7. The numbers 77 on the left side of his chest close to his heart. John was born in 1977.
8. An unknown possibly Japanese artwork on his left inner upper arm.
9. The sleeve on his left arm that has some Japanese artwork including symbolic peonies.
John says his first tattoo was of the Koi fish on his right bicep. Apparently, John had always wanted a tattoo and he enjoyed his experience he had in Japan while he was studying there so that inspired his first tattoo.
“Actually it is kind of a crudely drawn—I think it’s a fish that doesn’t exist in nature, but that’s okay because it exists on my arm. It’s like a Japanese style, like an Asian style fish.
I got when I was 18, I think. I studied Japanese for a couple years and lived in Japan and I could never get a tattoo when I was there because I was too young. So, when I turned eighteen I was like, “Yeah, give me a Japanese tattoo.” Except I got my Japanese tattoo done authentically in Bridgeport, Conn. by a guy that just wanted more black coffee.”

Born June 4, 1975, as Angelina Jolie Voight to parents Marcheline Bertrand and Jon Voight, this Academy Award-winning actress (Best Supporting Actress, 1999, Girl, Interrupted) has also won three Golden Globes and two Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards. Before getting into acting, Angelina made her living as a fashion model.

Angelina Jolie is a well-known humanitarian and philanthropist, supporting several causes across the globe, including working with refugees through UNHCR (Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees).
Tattooed actress Angelina Jolie and her husband Pitt have two adopted children, Maddox and Zahara, and a biological child, Shiloh.
Jolie achieved international fame for her portrait of videogame heroine Lara Croft in 2001 and since then established herself as one of the best known and highest paid actresses in Hollywood. As Lara Croft in Tomb Raider or the female assassin half of Mr. and Mrs. Smith you won’t see a single tattoo. Her tattoos are covered with makeup for her movie roles. Multiple sources report that during the Tomb Raider shoot, the makeup applied wasn’t doing a good enough job of covering the large ‘Billy Bob’ and black dragon on her left upper arm and a digital artist was hired to go frame by frame through the film and make sure no trace of skin art could be seen.
Angelina Jolie’s tattoos are perhaps just as well known as her trademark pouty lips and her performances on the silver screen. Angelina Jolie is the "world’s most beautiful woman," according to the "100 Most Beautiful" issue of People magazine in 2006, and a large part of that probably has to do with her tattoos.
Angelina Jolie has had several tattoos done over the years, and she continues to frequently add new ones or change existing ones. They are not there purely for cosmetic purposes either, as it is said that each tattoo has a special meaning behind it. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it does give you a bit of insight into the personality, thinking, and preferences of the popular actress. Angelina Jolie is one of the most photographed women in the world – and now one of the most tattooed.

Tattoos are usually permanent. Therefore, finding the right design should be as important as your decision to get a tattoo. After all there is nothing like the misery or regret a person could feel over a bad design. To help you make your decision, you should seriously consider these top sources of tattoo design ideas.

So you want to get a tattoo, but cannot decide what tattoo design ideas you are looking for? There are so many different ways that you can express your personality, through art on your body, which makes it difficult to decide what you want. You should have a specific reason for getting a tattoo, it may be to remember a loved one, or you may just want to express your own individuality. Whatever your reason may be, finding the right tattoo design ideas for you may be a bit of a challenge.
Tattoo Artists
The first and number one source of tattoo design ideas is reputable tattoo artists themselves. An artist who has been doing his trade for quite sometime and has a wide base of satisfied customers would know first hand about good designs and tattoo design ideas that would specifically fit you.
Tattoo artists can help you understand the meaning of a design, and you can easily discuss with them the design that best suits your personality. You can even give an artist your idea and leave the designing to him. The downside to this is that different artists have different opinions and you often have to do a lot of leg work and design book flipping to find the best artist and design
Online Galleries
The best tattoo designs can also be found on online galleries. There are lots of free and paid galleries to choose from. These galleries contain thousands of designs conveniently arranged in categories with new designs regularly coming in. The best thing about searching online for tattoo design ideas is that you can simply browse in the comfort of your own home. For a fee, you can print a design that you like and take it to an artist. If you do not have an artist yet, some galleries will offer you a directory of tattoo artists near your place.
Forums
Ideas are simply limitless in forums. There are numerous independent or gallery attached tattoo forums to choose from. In these forums you can upload your designs and ask forum members to give their opinion about it. You can also comment on the designs of others and maybe even get some inspiration from the member uploaded designs. This is a great way to interact and ask real average people like you their unbiased opinion.

Printed Material
Who says you need to restrict your tattoo design ideas on catalogs and galleries. Look through an assortment of books printed material for possible tattoo design ideas. You can flip through your favorite comic books or even look in science, astrology, psychology, archeology, sociology and anthropology books.

Other People
Consider asking friends and family members for design ideas also, especially those who are fond of the art themselves. Aside from these people, you could also simply observe what other people have and form a judgment on which designs look great and which one look horrible.
Your Own Creativity
Trust your own creativity. You can mix and match designs or you can answer some questions to arrive at a good design. What are you interested in? What inspires you? What is your life long passion? What do you love the most?
Today, people choose to be tattooed for cosmetic, sentimental/memorial, religious, and magical reasons, and to symbolize their belonging to or identification with particular groups, including criminal gangs but also a particular ethnic group or law-abiding subculture. Some Maori still choose to wear intricate moko on their faces. In Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, the yantra tattoo is used for protection against evil and to increase luck.

December 9th, 2008 -- Posted in Henna Safety |
Although in existence for thousands of years, the usage of traditional henna has so far been restricted to the Middle East, Africa and India. However, in the past few years, the concept of temporary tattoos has gained ground even in western countries, especially the US and the UK. The major advantages offered by the henna tattoo are that they are natural, easy to apply and remove, and low in cost. The absence of chemicals is what makes the henna tattoo a much sought after temporary tattoo.
Henna tattoo and its geographical roots
Traditional henna has been used for beautification and decoration purposes for thousands of years. While it is known as Henna or Hene in the Middle East and Africa, people in India and Pakistan know it as Mehendi. The Henna plant, Lawsonia Inermis, generally grows in hot and humid climates and is cultivated in several African countries, including Sudan and Morocco, Asian countries such as India, and some of the countries in the Middle East. It was the Mughals who encouraged the cultivation of henna in India and Pakistan and used the traditional henna for beauty and decorative purposes rather than just for its medicinal value. Although the use of henna tattoos has spread across a vast geographic area in recent years, it continues to be largely used as a beauty product.
A new age for Henna
Henna is one of the best alternatives to permanent colour and is much in demand for its cosmetic value. Henna tattoos are made from henna paste that is formed from ground green henna leaves, mixed with water and other natural products. The paste, when applied to the skin or the hair, leaves a colour that can vary from orange to rich mahogany, depending on the quality of the henna being used.
A major reason for henna’s growing popularity is that its colour is temporary and fades away with time and washing. So people who wish to get intricate designs on their body, but are afraid of or dislike piercing the skin can opt for henna tattoos, which are not only attractive but also cheap and simple to apply. Henna tattoos match the advantages offered by other forms of temporary tattoos in that they are available in various designs and varied colours. Tattoo artists have evolved newer designs over the years, besides using contemporary designs to suit the requirements of the modern day customer.

The latest use of henna tattoos is for various other cosmetic products as well. Due to its chemical-free nature and cooling properties, it makes excellent eyeliners, lipsticks and gels for soothing the skin.
Henna tattoo: preferred by all
Henna is preferred as a temporary tattoo because of the variety offered by it in terms of colour and design. While you can have elaborate designs with varied colours for special occasions, simple designs can be used in your daily routine. Application of the henna tattoo has also become easier with the availability of several Henna based products that have given a new lease of life to the varied uses of henna. Even better, now henna is available in easy-to-use Henna Pens that make applying henna tattoos as easy as drawing on paper.

One of the primary things that a tattoo parlor looks into is safety. Getting a tattoo means puncturing the skin, thus creating an opening that exposes your flesh. Tattoo artists should see to it that they employ the right procedures to ensure the safety of the process. The correct equipment and tools should also be used during tattooing. These products should be of high quality and pass health standards. Depending on your location, there are a number of organizations that ensure that tattoo parlors follow a certain standard in ensuring the safety of their clients and to avoid health issues and health hazards that may arise during the process of tattooing.

If you have plans of getting a tattoo, it is important that you are knowledgeable of the possible health hazards that you may face. Infection is one of the most common health hazards that you would be confronted with. There are a number of infections that you can have, one of the most common is hepatitis. When it comes to choosing a tattoo parlour, there are a lot of factors to consider. It is not a decision to be taken lightly because your final choice could determine whether you have your dream tattoo, or you have a substandard-looking tattoo.

So what points should you consider?
Well first of all you should look at some of your local tattoo parlours and check each one out individually. You should do a bit of research and find those tattoo parlours that are fully registered and licensed and have an up to date safety certificate first and foremost. This is because you should obviously only get a tattoo done by a professional outfit who take customers’ health and safety very seriously.
Your tattoo parlour should not only be fully licensed but should also practice what they preach. In other words they should use fully sterilized equipment at all times to avoid infections and diseases being passed on from person to person. They should also wear gloves and have clean surfaces around them, so always look around and ask about these things before you get a tattoo done.
Of course safety is not the only issue you need to be concerned about. You also want to choose a tattoo parlour, and a tattoo artist in particular, that can give you the tattoo design that you are dreaming of. Most tattoo parlours have a wide choice of tattoo designs to choose from, but you may like to choose your own custom design, so in this instance you must ensure that the tattoo artist you choose is capable of recreating this tattoo design on your body.
Finally if you are still unsure about which tattoo parlour to choose, then your best option is to get recommendations from friends and associates who have great looking tattoos. This is how a lot of people end up choosing which tattoo parlour to get their tattoo done and it’s easy to see why because if one of your friends has a really professional looking tattoo, then the chances are they will give you an equally attractive tattoo. If you want further confirmation you can also ask to see photos of past customers who have got tattoos done there.
So to sum up when looking for a tattoo parlour, you should take your time looking around rather than going to the first one you come to. Always look for a professional tattoo parlour that is not only fully compliant with health and safety rules but is also able to recreate professional looking tattoo designs, so you can achieve your prefect tattoo.
